The challenge
Advisory work is billed last and remembered worst. By the time the fee note is raised, the call it relates to is a month old and the only evidence is whatever someone wrote down at the time.
What follows is familiar: a quarter of recall, a discount to end the argument, and a client who is not sure what they paid for. None of it is a billing problem. It is a recording problem that surfaces at billing.
The system
- 01
The engagement is written down once
Scope, basis and the fee-earners on it are set when the matter is opened, so the terms are not reconstructed from a call.
Case Management → - 02
Billing reads the matter
Invoices are raised against the client with line items and tax, generated as a PDF, with payment status tracked from the link. Invoicing against an individual matter, and time capture, are on the roadmap.
Billing & Tasks → - 03
Currency and tax follow the engagement
The invoice format, currency and tax treatment are properties of the engagement — not a template with one country baked into it.
Billing & Tasks → - 04
The client sees the fee note in context
The invoice reaches the client in the portal, beside the matter it belongs to, rather than as an attachment with no history.
